LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. – April 5, 2022 – The Bullhead City Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Lake Havasu City. On Monday, April 4th at approximately 8 p.m., the Lake Havasu City Police Department responded to the 3300 block of Mockingbird Drive for a report of a man firing a gun multiple times inside his residence. The neighbors also reported the man – 48-year-old Jason Boon – was making suicidal threats.

When officers approached the residence, Boon reportedly came out and fired in their direction. Two of the officers returned fire. No officers were injured. Boon then barricaded himself inside the residence and refused to come out during a 6 hour stand-off. The Lake Havasu City SWAT team and crisis negotiators responded in an attempt to resolve the incident. Tear gas was deployed multiple times. At about 1:50 a.m., Boon came out of his residence unarmed and was taken into custody without further incident.

He was treated at the local hospital for a bullet graze to his arm. He was booked into the Lake Havasu City Police Department Detention Facility on a charge of failure to comply with a court order. Additional charges are pending per the outcome of the ongoing investigation. He is awaiting transport to the Mohave County Jail in Kingman. It is protocol to have an outside agency investigate an officer-involved shooting incident. Two Lake Havasu City Police officers who discharged their weapons are currently on administrative leave, which is also customary in an officer-involved shooting incident.
