Official Groundbreaking for Innovative Self-Contained Solar Power Grid at Grand Canyon West

When: Tuesday, October 11th at 10:00am PT 
Where: Grand Canyon West: 4817 New Town Road aka BIA Route 710, about 1,200’ north of the site
What: The Grand Canyon Resort Corporation, under the advisement of the Hualapai Tribe, will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, October 11 at 10:00am PT for a new utility-scale solar array to power Grand Canyon West. With the help of Solon, Tesla and Caterpillar, this innovative power system will marry the new solar array and battery bank to the current diesel generators to energize the existing micro-grid, originally commissioned in 2015. The new solar array and battery bank are designed to provide 50% of the electricity used at Grand Canyon West. This is the first of its kind power grid in this region and will provide sustainable energy to this beloved attraction.
