BULLHEAD CITY—A burro was struck and killed by a police transport van early Thursday morning.
Bullhead City Police spokeswoman Emily Fromelt said the crash happened around 2:30 a.m. a half mile up Highway 68.
Fromelt said the officer was returning from transporting detainees to the Mohave County jail in Kingman when a burro reportedly walked out in front of the driver.
“He did not have time to avoid hitting the burro,” she said.
The transport officer was not injured in the collision and no jail inmates were in the van at the time of the the crash.
The burro died at the scene for injuries it sustained by being hit.
Fromelt said no citations were issued.
This marks the sixth burro versus vehicle accident within the last month.
Although suggestions have been made by local residents to help prevent these types of crashes, the Bureau of Land Management who oversees the burro population in Mohave County, would have to be the one to issue any preventable measures.
