The Lake Havasu City Police Department would like to make the public aware of a recent scam that is being circulated among many Facebook community pages. The scam involves a subject using a fake account to solicit vendors (often food trucks and catering businesses) for supposed upcoming community events. The community events described are often intentionally vague, but the perpetrator may post flyers for the event in an attempt to appear legitimate. The perpetrator will then repeatedly solicit for vendors to send them direct messages and then seek payment upfront from the victims in order to participate in an event that does not exist.

If you have any questions about the legitimacy of a special event being held in Lake Havasu City, contact the event organizer directly. If you believe you may have been the victim of this scam, please contact the Lake Havasu City Police Department’s non-emergency line at 928-855-1171.

For additional consumer tips to avoid becoming a victim, or to find out about other current scams, you can check out the Federal Trade Commission’s website at  https://consumer.ftc.gov/scams
