Local restaurant and lounge Canyon 66 that had closed it’s doors back in March of this year has re-opened and is showing signs of excitement in the community.  The lounge struggled with some financial issues that arose through our seasonally slower time of year November through March.  Typically the occupancy of the neighboring Motel through the summer averages 80-90% but drops in the winter season to 30-45%.  The restaurant is fueled mostly by the motel guests but had made a good name for itself as a local place to dine, drink and see some entertainment.

Unfortunately in March 2018 they closed their doors and filed for bankruptcy along with the Ramada next door.  A couple months later things started to move again as the management company assigned began hiring local workforce back and established payment to vendors that had been defaulted on.  The community was truly hurt by this blow to the property not only because of the jobs lost, the wages unpaid, but also the loss of a very unique destination on Route 66 that brought travelers.  The word traveled around the world as bookings were having to be shuffled around, and tour companies having to change accommodations upon arriving to find their reservations were cancelled.

Now 3 months later a reboot of sorts is at hand.  New management, hotel staff, ground maintenance, restaurant staff,  lodging pricing, restaurant menu overhaul, and marketing re-launch (rumor is “sports lounge”, we noticed their logo change), this property is hoping for an upswing.  The owners have been working diligently on learning from mistakes that were made, correcting problems that needing attention, and re-establishing relationships with the local community.

“We want more than anything to support our local community here in Kingman and will be working very hard to follow-through on commitments we’ve made to our staff, family and friends that have supported us in this tough time.” “We are looking forward to many great opportunities that we are working on to make this property a wonderful place for all of our neighbors and visitors.” – Owner

This weekend during the Andy Devine Festival the restaurant will be offering numerous specials including a $5 Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday and drink specials each night.  They’re also throwing a Chili Bowl BBQ that they will continue as an annual party.  People can get a Cheeseburger, Bread Bowl of Chili, Pasta Salad, Potato Salad, Soda or tea, and a pickle for only $8.
