Road trip! All roads lead to Kingman as the world celebrates the Route 66 centennial and the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The Tin Can Tourists Route 66 Centennial Caravan recently rolled through town. That was followed by the official Route 66 Centennial Caravan with representatives from all eight states along the Route 66 corridor and the Dutch Route 66 Association. A highlight was the world famous steak challenge in Locomotive Park hosted by the Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo, Texas. On the heels of this historic event Route 66 Germany accompanied by journalists from the New York Times stopped in Kingman during their centennial tour.
But many people are fast discovering that Kingman is more than a stop on the way to somewhere else. With miles of scenic hiking and mountain biking trails, world class entertainment at the historic Beale Street Theater, unique attractions such as Tin Can Alley on 66, and events such as First Friday that transform the historic heart of Kingman, the city is becoming a popular southwest destination.
A road trip to Kingman can be enhanced by planning your visit around an event or two. Thank you Joyce Wiley of the Kingman Office of Tourism for this list of upcoming events.
