Sales and Prize Redemptions Remain Paused as Officials Work to Resolve Disruption

PHOENIX (Jan. 20, 2023) — Arizona Lottery Officials are making the difficult decision to continue the halt on all sales and prize redemptions until Scientific Games (SG), the company that operates the Arizona Lottery’s gaming system, can implement a solution that upholds the integrity of the Lottery’s games.

On Thursday morning, January 19, SG experienced an outage that is ongoing. As a result, all Arizona Lottery retailers are unable to sell games or redeem prizes. Arizona Lottery’s own customer service locations are also impacted.

SG’s initial investigation has determined that a January 19 system update that installed two new lottery games caused the system to crash. SG is working closely with Arizona Lottery Officials to resolve the situation and bring the system back online.

During the outage, drawings for Lottery games will continue as scheduled to honor wagers placed prior to the outage. Additionally, the Multi-State Lottery and Mega Millions Consortium are being kept apprised of Arizona Lottery’s situation. Currently, there is no estimated time that ticket sales and prize redemption will resume.

”We apologize to our lottery players, our retailer partners and lottery’s beneficiary community,” said Arizona Lottery Executive Director Gregg Edgar. “Protecting the integrity of the Lottery’s games is paramount to our operations. We are working diligently to bring our games back online as quickly and reliably as possible while keeping our players, retailers and beneficiaries top of mind.”

All Arizona Lottery drawings and results are being posted to the Arizona Lottery’s website as scheduled. Tickets purchased prior to the sales and prize redemption interruption are valid but cannot be redeemed until prize redemptions are resumed. Any tickets reaching the 180 expiration window during this time will be honored at Arizona Lottery offices once prize redemptions commence.
