Sam Elters Is New County Manager
Takes Over By End of Month
KINGMAN, AZ (June 2. 2020) – Mohave County will soon have a new County Manager taking over the reins from retiring Mike Hendrix. The Board of Supervisors officially hired Sam Elters yesterday. He is currently Senior Vice President and the National Director of Transportation for Matrix Design Group, working out of Phoenix.
Elters will receive a salary of $150,000 with the usual county benefits. He will start his new position with the county on or before June 29th with the actual starting date to be determined. He also worked for the county public works department a number of years ago.
Yesterday, Elters told the board “I want to start on a good foot. I want to earn your trust and your confidence. I believe I will be an asset and I will demonstrate that.” Moments later, following the vote by the supervisors, he was officially welcomed as the new county manager.
Board of Supervisors Chairman Jean Bishop says “Sam has ‘big shoes’ to fill with the well-deserved and earned retirement of Mike Hendrix and I look forward to working with him. He
has the right philosophy and incredible experience. He is well respected throughout the state of Arizona and brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience in managing large organizations that will benefit Mohave County and our citizens. Sam worked for Mohave County from 1986 to 1999 before moving on to more opportunities which included working for the Arizona Department of Traffic and as the State Engineer.”
Bishop added “as a special bonus, because of this unique experience and certification, the Board of Supervisors will have the opportunity to once again combine the position of County Manager and County Engineer.”
