The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the initial rollout of the Take Me Home program. Search and Rescue has been instrumental in assisting Sheriff Schuster in bringing this program to Mohave County. The Take Me Home program, originally developed by the Pensacola Florida Police Department, is for people who may need special assistance in times of an emergency. The program is free to any Mohave County resident who may have trouble communicating and is aimed at individuals that tend to be at risk for wandering such as Autism, Down Syndrome, and developmental or cognitive disabilities. The program is also intended to assist senior citizens who have Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. This kind of assistance may be required if the person is unable to speak or properly identify themselves, or if the become disoriented or act in a manner that could be misinterpreted by first responders or law enforcement officers.
This information is placed in a database maintained by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office that can only be accessed by law enforcement. If law enforcement finds someone who cannot communicate where he/she lives, they can search the database by description and return the person to their loved ones. The system also works in reverse — if a loved one goes missing, their picture and description are immediately available to responding law enforcement. There is no charge for citizens to enroll any adult or child in this program. However, there is a responsibility and commitment on the enroller to keep the system updated and current. We require anyone enrolling an individual be either a family member or legal guardian of the individual. All information is kept confidential.
Included for each person is a current picture, height and weight and other identifying details – along with emergency contact information. If law enforcement encounters a person in the Take Me Home system, law enforcement can query the Take Me Home system, searching by name or by the person’s physical description. Once the individual’s Take Me Home record has been located, the law enforcement has the information at hand to appropriately assist the person. To enroll a person in the program, register at http://takemehome.mohave.gov For more information, please contact the  Mohave County Sheriff’s Office at 928-753-0753.
