Train Derailment in Mohave County Carrying Corn Syrup

Update 3/16/23: The rail company as confirmed the derailed train was carrying corn syrup, not hazardous materials.

A train carrying hazardous materials reportedly derailed near Milepost 9 of Interstate 40 in Mohave County. Anita Mortensen, spokesperson for the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed the incident in a brief statement.

Despite concerns, officials have reported that there have been no spills at this time. The BNSF and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and are currently investigating the incident.

This unfortunate incident follows recent train derailments in other parts of the country, including one in Ohio that also involved a train carrying hazardous materials, raising concerns about its impact on public health and the environment.

Mohave County officials urge residents to stay updated on the latest developments and exercise caution in the area until further notice.
