BULLHEAD CITY–Anglers will get the chance to land some nice trout and rainbow fish this month thanks to the stocking at Davis Camp and Willow Beach, said Rusty Braun, owner of Riviera Marina in Bullhead City.

For example, Jay and Tammy Knapp (main photo) landed a nearly 18 pound fish down river near Community Park this past week. Braun said the couple captured their prized fish using anchovies while fishing from their dock along the Colorado River.

The federal hatchery is now stocking their first trout of the season, with rainbows being stocked a little farther south in the Willow Beach area. Community park is next in line to get their trout stocking before stocking up Davis Camp for a second time.

“You trout anglers might have to mix it up a bit to get these rainbows to the dinner table,” said Braun. “Try power bait and night crawlers. I did hear that mice tails were doing okay. A good idea is to throw your favorite spinner for some great action. I like the panther martin or the blue fox, but there are a lot of spinners that will work well the best bet is change your spinner if its not producing. A little word from the marsh, spinner baits are working well in a white or green for most large mouth bass and now and again a catfish will go after these colors.”

If you’re casting your line while out on Lake Mohave, your best chance to snag some small mouth bass will be along the shelves into the coves.

“Large mouth bass and catfish are back in the shallows, but the striper bite has yet to take off on the lake as of yet,” said Braun.

Mike Fisher landed this nice striper at 9.38 pounds and 30 and 1/4 inches.
