On Friday and Saturday (9/15 and 9/16), searchers from Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue attended the Utah Search and Rescue conference based at the Sand Hollow State Park near St George, Utah. Searchers attended multiple classes during the conference and included: the Sheriff’s UTV/ATV ride; UTV/ATV skills class; Utah DPS Aero (Helicopter) Petzl/High angle drop loop, pick off rescue scenario; DPS helicopter hoist operations of multiple subjects from remote cliff location; a major medical air ambulance/SAR rescue with GPS location scenario; Utah Air National Guard Blackhawk static display; Utah DPS helicopter hoist capabilities and equipment display; orthopedic injuries in the wilderness by Dr Brad Crosby; basic man tracking class and field exercise; arthropod attacks, spiders, scorpions, ants, bees and venomous snakes by Dr Brett Christianson; air/ground search by Air Life Utah; wilderness C-spine stabilization and assessment by Dr Nick Hansen; GPS/Map reading course; hypothermic and hyperthermic emergencies, prevention and treatment; splinting technics by Rocky Vista Medical School; “Hug A Tree”, lost children preventative program; SAR drone operations with remote communication, illumination and light load delivery capabilities; and underwater drone and diving rescue scenarios were also available.
