Watercraft Accident

BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. – July 5, 2022 – The Bullhead City Police Department is investigating a serious watercraft accident that occurred on Monday, July 4 on the Colorado River. 

     At 4:40 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to the designated swim area at Community Park, 1251 Highway 95, where four adults were struck by a jet ski. The jet ski operator, Iridian Jazmin Basoco, 26 of Las Vegas, NV, reportedly lost control and entered into the swim-only area. All four victims were transported to Western Arizona Regional Medical Center (WARMC).  

     One male victim, Ricardo Aponte Almanza, 43 of Corona, CA, was immediately flown to University Medical Center trauma center in Las Vegas, NV in critical condition. 

     Another male victim, Jose Rivas, 21 of Los Angeles, CA, was later flown to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, NV. 

     The two other victims – a 34-year-old female from Bakersfield, CA, and a 30-year-old male from Los Angeles, CA – were treated and released from WARMC.  

     The accident remains under investigation. The operator, Basoco, was using a rented jet ski from a Bullhead City business. Her signature was on the City mandated consumer protection form and she was wearing a business wristband as required by City law. Per City ordinance, all operators of rented personal watercraft are required to wear wristbands signifying that they have watched and understand a City safety video. 

     Once the investigation is completed and blood test results are returned, the report will be forwarded to the Mohave County Attorney’s Office for review.
