UPDATE 4:30 PM: WATERWAYS MISSING PERSON- LAKE HAVASU
The missing male subject from yesterday’s missing person case has been recovered. At approximately 2 PM on Wednesday (12/28), the missing male subject was located deceased near the area of Site 6. The
deceased male has been identified as Larry Lee Curtis, 55 of Holbrook, AZ. MCSO Division of Boating Safety would like to extend their appreciation to San Bernardino County Fire and the Lake Havasu City Police Department for their assistance with this incident.

On Tuesday (12/27), the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Division of Boating Safety responded to the area of Site 6 on Lake Havasu in reference to emergency calls about a person in the water yelling for help.

Upon Deputies arrival by boat, they located an adult male treading water.  He was obviously fatigued and extremely cold.  He was rescued from the water and pulled onto the patrol boat.  The male subject advised that he and his family member went kayaking on the lake.  He explained that as they were in the middle of the lake, both of their kayaks capsized.  He further explained that they were in the water for quite some time, and they were becoming exhausted and cold.  He said that he was forced to start swimming to shore, but that they could not tell where shore was due to the darkness, rain, and wind.  He said that he was in the water for approximately 30 minutes prior to being picked up by the Sheriff’s Watercraft, and that he had not heard or seen his family member since.
The man that was rescued was treated on scene by medical personnel and refused transport to a hospital. Deputies searched the area utilizing several boats, along with searching shorelines by foot, but were unable to locate the missing man.
Neither men were wearing life jackets at the time of the incident.  Wind, rain, and hazardous water conditions are a factor in this case.
Division of Boating Safety Deputies and members of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Dive Rescue and Recovery Team will continue searching the area today (12/28). Be aware of patrol boats and divers in the water.
