MOHAVE COUNTY, AZ (February 1, 2022) – The winner of the 2022 Mohave County Spelling Bee is 7th grader, MyKenzie Devries from Kingman’s White Cliffs Middle School. Nineteen contestants, who were winners from schools around the county, participated in the spelling event. MyKenzie won the spelling bee in the 15th round by spelling two words in a row correctly.  They were “lumbar” and “supine.”  Seventh grader Xavier Keller from Kingman Academy of Learning School finished second.  Fifth grader Gian Juncosa from Desert Willow came in third.

The county offers special thanks to the Mohave County Educational Service Center staff for its help; Cliff Angle, the pronouncer; and the spelling judges, Naydid Penazola, Deanna Haws and Geni Borland.   MyKenzie now heads to the state spelling bee in Phoenix on March 19.
