Earlier this morning, the Bullhead City Fire Department responded to the 1600 block of Ramar Road for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found an active fire inside a double-wide residence. One male occupant was asleep when the fire broke out. Fortunately, working smoke alarms alerted him to the danger, allowing him to evacuate safely without injury.

Firefighters quickly subdued the blaze, preventing the fire from consuming the entire structure. Investigators determined that the fire was caused by an extension cord that had been looped and connected together—commonly referred to as daisy-chaining—while being used to power a large appliance. The department advises that large appliances should always be plugged directly into a wall outlet. Extension cords should not be used to power appliances, and they should never be connected together.

This incident serves as an important reminder about the lifesaving role of working smoke alarms. In this case, the alarms activated while the occupant was asleep, providing the critical warning needed for his safe escape. Residents are encouraged to install smoke alarms throughout their homes, test them regularly, and ensure they have working batteries.
