On June 10th at approx. 1600 hrs, Northern Arizona Fire District (NAFD) responded to the 3500
block of Quail Lane for a reported brush fire. While en route, E311 quickly upgraded the call to a
1st alarm for a residential structure fire based on fire and smoke conditions spotted from over a
mile away. E311 crew arrived on scene of a rapidly moving fire and heavy wind conditions
threatening a home. Neighbors nearby stated a victim was trapped inside the residence and they
were unable to get a hold of him. The structure fire was immediately upgraded to a 2nd alarm.
Due to the quick actions by an MCSO deputy and NAFD firefighter, the victim was able to be
rescued out of a bedroom window. Within a matter of minutes, the residence was completely
engulfed in fire. A defensive strategy was declared and efforts were focused on protecting
adjacent structures. A second residence on Martin Lane, located in the path of the wind and fire,
was overtaken and was a complete loss. Numerous sheds, vehicles, trees, rubbish, and
miscellaneous items contributed to the heavy fuel load. The fire was eventually brought under
control and units remained on scene for 5 hours with no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is
undetermined at this time.
In total, NAFD responded with 2 Battalion Chiefs, 3 Engines, 2 Water Tenders, and 1 Rehab
Unit. Kingman Fire Department responded with 1 Ladder Truck, 3 Engines, 1 Battalion Chief
and 1 Fire Investigator. Additional agencies that assisted with this incident include Mohave
County Sheriff’s Office, River Medical, Unisource, and Red Cross.
