On Thursday, November 9th, at about 3:00pm, the Kingman Police Department arrested Lacelle Dekota Manakaja, 19 of Peach Springs on the felony charges of Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer and Disorderly Conduct with a Weapon. At about 10:20am officers responded to a business in the 3300blk of East Andy Devine Avenue for a report of a shoplifter with a knife threatening staff. Upon arrival officers learned that Manakaja had stolen alcohol, several large kitchen knives and when confronted by staff, removed the packaging from one of the knives and threated them. Manakaja had locked himself in the upstairs restroom and when initially confronted by officers, threw a knife at them. The business was evacuated and a perimeter was set up with the assistance of Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) detectives. MCSO SWAT team members arrived and after negotiations had failed a chemical agent was deployed into the restroom. Manakaja ultimately exited the restroom and was taken into custody without further incident. Manakaja was taken to Kingman Regional Medical Center where he was medically cleared and then booked into the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility on the listed charges. No officers, employees or store patrons were injured.
