YUMA, Ariz. – Fire managers from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Colorado River District are planning to conduct prescribed burning at Senator Wash North Shore recreation area, located 17 miles north of Yuma, through the end of the year as weather and fuel conditions allow.

BLM fire personnel will burn piles of vegetation cleared from the shoreline and roads to reduce the threat and spread of wildfires and to improve access for outdoor recreation in the area. Prescribed burning may occur multiple times to eliminate piles of vegetation accumulated during thinning treatments in and around Senator Wash.

To ensure the safety of visitors, BLM fire management personnel will ignite the piles only when weather conditions are conducive to burning. Visitors and outdoor recreationists should expect some light smoke in the area, with smoke emissions managed in accordance with Arizona Department of Environmental Quality regulations.

Access to the burn area may be temporarily restricted to provide for public safety.

Follow BLM Arizona on Facebook or X/Twitter for updates on prescribed burn activities and more information on BLM initiatives.

BLM manages about 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The agency also administers 700 million acres of subsurface mineral estate throughout the nation. Its mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
