Bullhead City Provides List of Resources for Staying Cool in Response to Heat Watch

Bullhead City, AZ., May 29, 2025 – The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for Bullhead City and the surrounding area from Friday, May 30, at 9:00 a.m., through Saturday, May 31, at 11 p.m. With forecasted highs ranging from 104-108 degrees Fahrenheit, Bullhead City is working in coordination with Governor Hobbs’ efforts to raise heat awareness and is providing information on options to stay cool during the hot summer days.

The BHHS Legacy Foundation Christine Stamper Center for Help & Hope, located at 1594 North Oatman Rd, is open to everyone year-round, seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The center offers air conditioning, restrooms, drinking water, heat awareness information, electrical outlets for charging devices, meals, computer access, laundry services, and homeless rehabilitation services. There are beds available for a limited number of unhoused individuals, veterans, and families for overnight stays. On days when temperatures exceed 115 degrees, the center extends its daytime capacity into the later evening hours.

The Salvation Army Social Services at 1461 Palma Rd provides respite from the elements on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon, offering air conditioning, restrooms, drinking water, heat awareness information, and access to additional support services. The Salvation Army’s thrift shop at the same location offers air conditioning, drinking water, and heat awareness information during its operating hours from Monday to Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Sundays, individuals can find respite from the heat during the Salvation Army’s services from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Bullhead City Senior Enrichment Center, located at 2275 Trane Rd, is available to individuals 50 years and older. It operates on Mondays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Tuesdays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Services offered include air conditioning, restrooms, drinking water, heat awareness information, outlets for charging devices, senior meals, and senior activities.

In instances when outside temperatures reach 120 degrees Fahrenheit or higher for three consecutive days, the City of Bullhead City will open the Optimum Community Center at 2380 Optimum Way as a cooling center. This facility operates from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday, and at the discretion of City Administration on weekends. It is open to all, including pets, providing air conditioning, restrooms, drinking water, heat awareness information, and charging outlets. Pets must be crated, and crates are provided. The center is accessible via the city’s Bullhead Area Transportation System. When activated as a cooling center, the Bullhead City Municipal Pool will waive entrance fees and offer free activities according to its regular schedule.

“Extreme heat can be dangerous, and we want to ensure the public is aware of the many great resources that are available to them,” said Bullhead City Public Information Officer Mackenzie Covert. “While most of our community is well-versed in the risks and can provide adequate cooling for themselves during our hot summer months, there are situations where individuals unexpectedly need cooling services. Being aware of the resources can help save lives.”
