BULLHEAD CITY, AZ., June 15, 2023 – The new splash pad and Family Fun Zone located at the northern edge of Bullhead City’s Community Park will open tomorrow, Friday, June 16 at 10 a.m. The Family Fun Zone features a designated grilling area, 2 beach volleyball courts, 4 concrete cornhole games, 2 concrete ping pong tables, 2 concrete foosball tables, 2 concrete chess/checkers tables, 2 tetherball poles, 2 triple-shot basketball games, a concrete ladder toss (ladder golf) game, gaga ball pit, hopscotch, an omni-spin spinner, twister, four square court, a playground for children from 2 to 5 years old, a playground for children from 5 to 12 years old, and a state-of-the-art splash pad.

All are invited to bring their own bean bags, ping pong paddles and balls, Chess or Checkers pieces, volley balls, gaga balls, ladder toss balls, swimsuits, and/or beach towels to the park to experience the new amenities for themselves. Bullhead Community Park is located at 1251 Highway 95. All requisite game supplies can be purchased across the street at the Human Bean. In addition, swim wear, goggles, sunscreen, beach towels and more can be purchased at The River Shop located on the bottom floor of the Bullhead Area Chamber of Commerce.

“The Mayor and City Council, along with city staff, have worked tirelessly to fund and build this wonderful amenity for our community, especially for those residents on the northside,” City Manager Toby Cotter said. “You can search the entire southwest and not find a park as unique and special as this park on the Colorado River. It is a wonderful gift to the residents of Bullhead City.”

Food trucks will set up in the north parking lot for the first open day of the Family Fun Zone. Bullhead City Residents will be able to park just south of the Family Fun Zone for free by pulling into the Community Park entrance at Laughlin Ranch Blvd and following the road north.

The new Family Fun Zone also features 60,000 square feet of artificial turf, which the city calculates will save enough water to service more than 125 homes every year. After 25 years, the artificial turf will save enough water to supply 3,140 homes for one year. To protect the turf, the designated grilling area is the only place in the Family Fun Zone where grilling will be permitted.

The new splash pad features nighttime RGB LED lighting, multiple benches with shade covering, a rubberized life floor surface, and water features for people of all ages including a large water-dumping bucket, a slide, and more. Water used by the splash pad is UV filtered, chlorinated, and recirculated to conserve water and ensure public health is protected.

The Project to build the splash park was approved by the Bullhead City Council during the February 1, 2022 City Council Meeting.
