Bullhead City purchased this building today. It will be converted into the City’s new Animal Care and Welfare facility. City Manager Toby Cotter is asking all residents to join him in the design, configuration and remodeling of this exceptional space. Please watch for public meetings and public tours of the new space as the City embarks on a three month planning process to convert the building from the home of the Mohave Valley Daily News to the new home for pet care. It will be more than a shelter. Mayor Steve D’Amico and City Council members desire a welcoming environment where all visitors, no matter two legs or four legs, are treated with exceptional kindness. The new facility will be clean, spacious, caring and modern. Public viewing will be readily available. Indoor and outdoor play spaces are desired. Veterinarian services are hoped to be offered. There are many other ideas that are being pursued. Selberg and Associates have been hired as the project architect.

Why did the city purchase this building? The Mohave Valley Daily News was recently purchased. The purchase price did not include the building. The newspaper team is moving to the Colorado Place. The city had already started a design concept to build a brand new building near the current location. The opportunity to purchase this building from Brehm Communications presented itself and the Bullhead City Council agreed to purchase the building for $1,750,000. The new building is more than six times larger than the current building on Trane Road.

This process is decades in the making. The time for your engagement is now. City staff has tons of ideas, but we want to hear from you. Let’s start by posting here on Facebook. What would you like to see in your new animal care facility? What have you viewed in other community animal facilities that you would like to see in Bullhead City? Let’s all work together to bring the best public animal care in the nation right here to Bullhead City.
