Golden Valley Polling Location Recovers from Early Morning Power Outage, County Elections Director Remarks on Total Cooperation

MOHAVE COUNTY, AZ (November 5, 2024) – UniSource reported a significant power outage occurring in Golden Valley, disrupting the sole voting location’s operation in the area, the Golden Valley Fire District Training Center. The power interruption, which started at 4:45 am, was fully restored before 7am, impacting approximately 40 voters who were waiting in line to vote.

Allen Tempert, the County Elections Director, responded to the incident at 5:20 am, swiftly notifying the county’s Risk & Emergency Management Department and Unisource of the situation. Temporary lighting was instituted, and by 6am, those lined up to vote were admitted into the building.

By 6:30 am, thanks to the Golden Valley Fire Department’s assistive efforts, generator power was provided. Tempert informed the voters on site about a short delay of approximately 20 minutes before they could be checked in to cast their vote. The director reassured the voters that the polling site would remain open until 7pm, offering them the flexibility to return later if preferred.

Tempert praised the Golden Valley voters for their patience and support throughout the power interruption. At 6:20 am, electronic polling books were restored, and the voting process started, seeing all voters in line cast their vote within 45 minutes. A total of 88 individuals had voted by 7am.

“I am incredibly impressed,” remarked Tempert, “the cooperation between poll workers and voters was outstanding. Everyone was dedicated to ensuring the voting process proceeded in an orderly manner despite the challenges.”

In addition to the event at the polling station, the power outage also impacted the GVID Water System’s operation. The disruption resulted in a temporary low water pressure in Zone D (the north end). Normal operation of the water system has now been restored.

All polling locations within the county will remain open until 7pm today.
