Research across numerous sectors reinforces what educators and local leaders have known for decades. Community-based learning and lifelong education are not just valuable; they are vital for thriving and vibrant communities.

Studies show that people who engage in non-formal learning, especially older adults, experience significant gains in psychological wellbeing and quality of life. This is true even when they are facing vulnerability or health challenges. Continued learning acts as a buffer against decline and promotes mental health across the lifespan.

A platform for inclusive growth fuels improvements in social cohesion, self-confidence, and civic participation that are tied to participation in adult education activities. These benefits accumulate not just in individuals, but across households and neighborhoods.
