Release #: 1

On Saturday, May 9, 2026, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Kingman Police Department arrested Shane Thomas Peterson, 51, of Kingman, on felony charges of Aggravated Assault/Domestic Violence, two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Damage, and Prohibited Possession of a Firearm.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., officers responded to an apartment in the 3000 block of Hualapai Mountain Road regarding a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, they learned that Peterson and the victim, a 52-year-old Kingman resident, had been involved in an argument that escalated into an assault. When officers attempted to contact Peterson, he brandished a firearm, prompting officers to retreat and take cover.

Believed to be heavily intoxicated and in possession of multiple firearms, Peterson barricaded himself inside the apartment and refused to comply with commands to exit peacefully. Given the dangerous circumstances, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team was requested and arrived at approximately 3:30 p.m. Nearby residents were evacuated during the ensuing standoff.

After approximately four and a half hours of negotiations and multiple attempts to secure a peaceful surrender—including the use of gas inside the apartment—Peterson was taken into custody at approximately 8:30 p.m. No officers or additional civilians were injured during the incident.

Following medical clearance, Peterson was booked into the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility on the listed charges. The victim was treated at the scene and later released.
