The DAISY Foundation created the award to recognize extraordinary nurses who make a powerful difference to the patients and families in their care.
Carrie is a nurse in KRMC’s intensive care unit, and those who nominated her had wonderful things to say about the care she provides there.
During the pandemic, so many nurses experienced burnout both physically and mentally. Carrie went above and beyond not only for her patients, but also for her fellow nurses. While staffing shortages strained all inpatient units, Carrie picked up extra shifts so others could take personal time they needed.
Some patients were in the ICU for weeks on end. Carrie would braid their hair so it didn’t become knotted, talk with their families to make sure they understood their loved one’s condition, and hold patients’ hands when their families couldn’t visit.
Her nominator cited her compassion, dedication, and knowledge as a critical care nurse as reasons she should be honored with the DAISY Award.
We agree, and we’re grateful to have Carrie on our team! If you know an outstanding nurse, nominate them for a DAISY Award here:
