MEC Announces Open Application for Annual Washington Youth Tour

BULLHEAD CITY, AZ – Mohave Electric Cooperative (MEC) is pleased to announce the call for applications for the annual Washington Youth Tour. Upholding its commitment to “Education, Training, and Information,” one of the 7 Cooperative Principles, MEC continues to support the development of its youngest members.

“The Washington Youth Tour is a unique opportunity for students to gain inspiration, learn about cooperative values, and understand what it means to be part of something larger in our nation,” said MEC’s CEO Tyler Carlson. “At Mohave Electric Cooperative, we believe in equipping our young members with the necessary tools and resources to help shape their future.”

The initiative invites students, whose parents or guardians are MEC members, to represent Mohave Electric Cooperative in the annual Washington Youth Tour. This week-long tour provides an opportunity for students to network with other youth nationwide, visit significant landmarks in the country’s capital, and enrich their knowledge of the country’s history.

The Youth Tour is slated to take place in the Summer of 2025 in Washington, DC. Furthermore, MEC will select one outstanding student from the tour to join the Board of Directors and CEO in briefing the state legislators on their Capitol trip in January 2026.

MEC acknowledges participants through a rigorous two-step selection process comprising an initial essay round followed by a presentation to a panel of judges. Eligible applicants should be high school juniors, and they must obtain permission from parents or guardians to apply. A well-crafted essay of 300-500 words should accompany applications which are due by 5 p.m. on October 31, 2024.

Applications can be found at MEC’s community page: https://www.mohaveelectric.com/community/washington-youth-tour/
