Rising Star Calista Matthews Embodies Dedication and Success within the City of Kingman Parks & Recreation Department

Kingman, AZ – The City of Kingman proudly highlights the remarkable journey of Calista Matthews, an exceptional employee of the Parks & Recreation Department. With an impressive track record of accomplishments, Calista’s professional growth within the department serves as an inspiration to her colleagues and the community.

Calista’s journey with the City of Kingman began in 2015 when she selflessly volunteered her time to support various recreation programs. Her passion for community engagement and love for the department’s initiatives soon led her to become a certified lifeguard at the age of 15. Displaying both talent and dedication, Calista was soon hired as a Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor, as well as a Program Aide to the City’s Summer Fun Daze Day Camp.

Year after year, Calista continued to excel and demonstrate her commitment to the department’s mission. In 2021, her exceptional leadership skills earned her a promotion to the role of Assistant Aquatics Manager. A year later, her impressive accomplishments were recognized once again, leading to her well-deserved appointment as the Aquatics Manager.

Today, Calista serves as a key year-round employee, holding multiple roles within the department. In addition to being the Aquatics Manager during the summer pool season, she also serves as a Program Supervisor, allowing her to contribute across a diverse array of departmental initiatives and events. From Bingo nights and dance recitals to family-friendly, festive celebrations like the Andy Devine Parade, Family Campout, Mud Mania, Easter and Breakfast with Santa, Calista’s tireless efforts and infectious enthusiasm have left an indelible mark on the City of Kingman’s recreation programs.

Her continuous pursuit of professional development has resulted in numerous certifications, with her most recent achievement being the Certified Lifeguard Instructor status. With this new certification, Calista is now empowered to train and certify future lifeguards, contributing to the safety and well-being of community members.

City of Kingman Parks & Recreation Department Superintendent, Yvonne Cossio, stated, “Calista Matthews exemplifies the spirit of dedication and success within our department. From a young volunteer to a prominent Aquatic Manager and Program Supervisor, Calista has consistently demonstrated her commitment to the City of Kingman and its residents.
