It was one of the most exciting events on the Colorado River in the spring of 2023. And the second Laughlin Bullhead Airshow scheduled for April 6, 2024, is shaping up to be even more spectacular. Organizers of this free celebration of aeronautical history have hinted that the displays on the ground of military, historical, and experimental aircraft, and the arial performances, will be larger and more entertaining.

As with last year’s airshow, the 2024 event is being organized with supervision from airshow veteran Kevin Walsh. With a career that includes more than four decades of participating in, and organizing, air shows, spectators are assured an unforgettable experience.

His stunts and aerial maneuvers have thrilled millions of spectators throughout the world.  He has flown everything from vintage warbirds to modern jets, and he is always looking for new challenges and opportunities to showcase his talents.

Walsh’s association with air shows dates to childhood. While still in elementary school he stuffed envelopes for the London Air Show in Ontario, Canada where his father was the show’s director for many years. His father was also a founding member of this event. In his teens Walsh took on other responsibilities including the parking of cars.

At the 54th annual International Council of Air Shows (ICAS) convention Walsh was awarded the ICAS Sword of Excellence, its highest honor. The award is given in recognition of the provision of outstanding service and personal contributions to the air show industry.

Walsh is the President and CEO of the Yankee Air Museum in Belleville, Michigan. He is also the longtime director of Thunder Over Michigan Air Show.

Walsh has also served as Wingman Events president. In addition to the Michigan air show in Ypsilanti, Michigan, he has also been instrumental in development of the Thunder Over Utah Air Show in St. George, Utah. He has also served as a consultant for development of air shows throughout the world.

Walsh has also worked tirelessly to ensure events such as the Bullhead Laughlin Air Show are patriotic without being political. In an interview published in Air Show Digest, Walsh said, “It’s a complicated topic. The product we put out is patriotic, but we’re immersed in a veterans’ organization with the Yankee Air Museum, and a military hotbed with Selfridge Air National Guard Base and 31 aerospace related businesses here.” He also noted that, “We also strive to thank the military in a way that is non-political.”

Walsh’s aeronautical career is long and diverse. Aside from air shows he also worked as an instructor and a test pilot. He has also been involved in numerous projects associated with new aircraft evaluation, and development of related technologies.

Walsh has also been at the forefront of developing air shows that appeal to a younger demographic. He is also credited with spearheading the modernization of air show marketing.

The airshow that takes flight on Saturday, April 6, 2024, is made possible with the support of a diverse array of sponsors including the Laughlin Tourism Commission, Laughlin Bullhead International Airport, Findlay Bullhead, Bullhead City, Arizona Office of Tourism, and Travel Nevada.
