This Is National Public Health Week

MOHAVE COUNTY, AZ (April 4, 2022) – The Mohave County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) is celebrating National Public Health Week April 4-10th. The theme for the week is “Public Health is Where You Are.” National Public Health Week is a time to celebrate and recognize the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving the health of local communities and communities across the nation.

Although the response to the pandemic took considerable time and resources, the MCDPH also:

  • Inspected over 1400 food establishments and over 700 bars, public schools, RV parks and campgrounds, public pools, and groomer/kennel facilities.
  • Investigated and assisted in mitigating over 100 public nuisance complaints.
  • Identified and proactively prevented the potential spread of mosquito carried disease (West Nile virus).
  • Investigated over 500 infectious disease cases
  • Provided over 4,400 childhood immunizations
  • Reached 3,300 WIC clients with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance
  • Began working on a new Community Health Assessment and Community Health Improvement Plan
  • Applied for reaccreditation through the National Public Health Accreditation Board
  • Facilitated the review of over 20 child fatalities that occurred in Mohave County
  • Finalized the Overdose Fatality Review Team and conducted a review of 20 cases
  • Began training for a Suicide Mortality Review Team and process

All of this work was completed by the Mohave County Health Department while also receiving and reporting on over 23,000 COVID-19 cases and responding to the pandemic. County Health Director Denise Burley says, “where we live, work, and play impacts our health and our opportunity to prevent disease and injury. During this week, we celebrate Public Health staff and the power of prevention in improving health outcomes and reducing the burden of disease in our county.”
