Start an exciting career in the hospitality industry at Grand Canyon West.

Grand Canyon West (GCW) doesn’t only bring tourism to Mohave County; the one-of-a-kind attraction at the Grand Canyon West rim, along with the Hualapai River Runners (HRR) in Peach Springs, AZ, are primary employers for the surrounding communities. In fact, of the 400+ people employed at GCW, more than a quarter come from Kingman, AZ, alone.

What draws so many Mohave County residents here?

  • The adrenaline-inducing attractions.
  • The chance to support and learn more about Arizona’s Indigenous communities.
  • The benefits (including transportation!)

What Are Grand Canyon West & Hualapai River Runners?

The Grand Canyon Resort Corporation (GCRC) developed GCW in 1988 to deliver heart-pounding adrenaline rushes that visitors from around the world want to check off their bucket lists. The prized attraction is the engineering marvel added in 2007, Skywalk. The only glass cantilever bridge of its kind in the US gives those who dare the chance to walk 4,000’ above the canyon floor, jutting out 70’ from the rim. Guano Point, the Zipline, and Heli-Pontoon tours offer stunning above and below-rim experiences, while the HRR takes to the water, with the only one-day motorized whitewater rafting trip available on the Colorado River.

GCRC thought of everything, including the amenities necessary to turn a visit into a vacation. Guests are invited to stay near Skywalk at the Cabins at Grand Canyon West and near the whitewater rafting action at the Hualapai Lodge. Multiple dining options are available, as well as shopping. Perhaps one of the most treasured aspects of these attractions is the educational opportunities.

Who are The People of the Tall Pines?

What sets GCW apart from the national park is its location on the Hualapai Reservation and how the attractions support its more than 1,300 Hualapai, known as The People of the Tall Pines. The reservation was established in 1883 and encompasses about 1 million acres along 108 miles of the Grand Canyon and the Colorado River. The area occupies part of 3 northern Arizona counties: Coconino, Yavapai, and Mohave.

Guests of GCW and HRR are afforded the opportunity to explore Indigenous cultures and understand the traditions of the Hualapai Nation and its bands. Self-guided tours of the Indian Village and displays in the Skywalk Main Terminal at Eagle Point, and the Cultural Gallery at Hualapai Point, and the many Hualapai Ambassadors share insights into the proud people who have lived here for time immemorial—an opportunity afforded to every employee as well.

What Positions are Available and What is in it for You?

An attraction of this magnitude requires many dedicated professionals to provide the best experience to visitors. The employment opportunities run the gamut from management to maintenance to hospitality. Departments include medical, airport operations, transit, cultural liaisons, ticket sales, IT, river guides, and more, with positions ranging from clerks to managers and beyond.

Competitive salaries are accompanied by full-time benefits, including 13 paid holidays and three weeks of paid vacation a year; medical, vision, and dental insurance; a $10,000 life insurance policy; a 401K savings plan with a 5% company match, and an annual uniform allowance. Plus, there’s help to get you there and back.

“We recognize with today’s gas prices, traveling back and forth from Grand Canyon West can be a hardship, so we offer transportation at several locations in Mohave County,” said GCRC Human Resources. “We want our employees to safely travel from their communities to the Grand Canyon’s West Rim and back easily.”
