MOHAVE COUNTY, AZ (October 2, 2024) – Mohave County Emergency Management Officer, Mike Browning, has declared that the ’emergency condition’ warranting a ban on open fires and use of consumer fireworks within the unified areas of Mohave County no longer persists.
This decision follows the assessment of current conditions in each and all Fire Zones in the county as per Mohave County Ordinance No. 2013-04, Section V. Additionally, the decision aligns with a similar ban lifting on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) managed properties throughout the county.
The initial prohibition banning open fires, campfires, and consumer fireworks was enacted by the Board of Supervisors on June 28, 2024. The desisting emergency condition now allows the ban to be lifted since 8:00 a.m., September 27, 2024.
The lifting of the prohibition was also influenced by a series of factors discussed with Bureau of Land Management (BLM) fire management personnel and Fire Department Chiefs in the county. These factors include recent changes in weather, precipitation levels, and shifts in fire ignitions and behaviors.
Sharing a concurrent timeline with the BLM, the lifting of the ban also marks the cessation of the BLM’s fire restrictions starting from the exact same date.
Joseph Dorner, Mohave County’s Director of Risk and Emergency Management, has announced that a formal ratification to formally lift the prohibition will be placed on the meeting agenda for the Board, set for Monday, October 7, 2024.
This decision marks an optimistic turning point for the residents of Mohave County, with eased restrictions on outdoor activities and a promising step in effective risk and emergency management.
