During the debate on July 9th at the CRUHSD Anderson Autogroup Fieldhouse, District 2 Mohave County Supervisor candidates Rich Lettman and Scotty McClure discussed their backgrounds, positions on key issues, and visions for the county. Notably absent was Grace Hecht, the other candidate in the race, whose non-attendance sends a negative message about her campaign’s commitment to transparency and voter engagement.

Rich Lettman, currently on the Bullhead City Council, emphasized his fiscal conservatism, extensive business experience, and desire to continue the productive relationship between Bullhead City and Mohave County. He highlighted his support for debates, his opposition to federal gun seizures, and his focus on responsible water use and infrastructure development. Lettman advocated for pro-development policies and the incorporation of Fort Mohave and Mohave Valley.

Scotty McClure, a veteran and former school board member in California, criticized current local government spending and decision-making. He voiced strong opposition to federal gun seizures and illegal immigration. McClure expressed frustration over local development projects and spending, pledging to scrutinize the county budget and reduce unnecessary expenditures.

Both candidates shared their educational backgrounds and experiences in public service. They addressed local issues such as the need for a new parking lot at River Valley High School, securing water rights, and managing the county budget. Lettman supported exploring alternative building codes in rural areas, while McClure advocated for less government interference in personal property development.

In their closing statements, Lettman emphasized his endorsements from local leaders and his commitment to managing the county’s growth responsibly. McClure highlighted his dedication to fiscal oversight and reducing taxes. Both candidates sought to connect with voters by addressing their concerns and outlining their plans for Mohave County.

Public debates are a cornerstone of democracy, providing a platform for candidates to present their views and for voters to make informed decisions. Grace Hecht’s absence from this important event undermines the democratic process and raises questions about her willingness to engage with the electorate. By not participating, she missed an opportunity to address voter concerns and demonstrate her commitment to serving the community transparently.
