KIA AND HYUNDAI OWNERS URGED TO IMPLEMENT SECURITY MEASURES TO PREVENT VEHICLE THEFT
Kingman, AZ – Following recent spikes in automobile burglaries and thefts, car owners are being advised to implement additional precautions to safeguard their vehicles. This alert comes in response to a prolonged social media trend pinpointing security gaps prevalent in some vehicle models, a situation that has culminated in increased thefts nationwide.
Within Kingman alone, over 80 vehicles have reportedly been stolen in the timeframe of the past six months. The most susceptible to this misfortune include specific Kia models produced from 2011 to 2021 and certain Hyundai models from the 2013 to 2022 production years, particularly those with physical key ignitions. All impacted vehicle owners are ardently encouraged to liaise with their local Hyundai or Kia dealerships to inquire about potential security upgrades.
Kia and Hyundai have released software updates to mitigate these security vulnerabilities, though eligibility for the upgrade varies according to the model. Owners of Kia vehicles can assess their eligibility by visiting the Kia customer care site and inputting their vehicle’s VIN. Notably, for owners whose vehicles are not eligible for the software upgrade, Kia offers supplementary protection including ignition cylinder protectors and steering wheel locks.
Hyundai, in similar fashion, assures most impacted vehicle owners to be eligible for a software upgrade. Hyundai is further extending its efforts by offering free steering wheel locks to a handful of owners whose vehicles are not eligible for the upgrade.
Owners who seek additional security measures are recommended to install aftermarket car alarm systems or tracking devices to further safeguard their property against theft.
The City of Kingman is firmly dedicated to the protection and safety of its residents. By staying informed of the current situation and implementing suggested security measures, vehicle owners can participate in reducing possible risk of theft.
