MOHAVE COMMUNITY COLLEGE OFFERS ASSISTED LIVING CAREGIVER COURSE

Mohave County – Mohave Community College Community Education encourages interested individuals to consider its upcoming Assisted Living Caregiver course, a program designed to equip participants with the skills necessary for a rewarding and fulfilling career in caregiving.

The program, which combines lectures and practical laboratory sessions, emphasizes the development of basic caregiving skills. Assisted living caregivers are crucial in maintaining the health, independence, and quality of life for those in need by assisting with daily activities, administering medication, providing transportation, and much more.

Instructor Lorely Mutchler adds, “As a caregiver in assisted living, you have the opportunity to enhance residents’ lives by offering support with daily activities, meal assistance, and life-enrichment programs. The experience is incredibly rewarding.”

Commencing November 4th, 2024, and running until December 9th, classes will take place from 9 a.m. to noon, with laboratory sessions following from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Examinations conclude the coursework. Students will need to identify levels of care within an assisted living facility, articulate necessary care for each level and successfully demonstrate basic caregiving skills. They will also be equipped with home environment maintenance and job management skills alongside effective abilities to communicate, and demonstrating ethical and legal behaviors.

Mutchler noted that the demand for caregivers has increased significantly with people living longer lives. “Whether you’re looking to build a career in healthcare or have inherent passion for caring for others, this course allows you to develop meaningful relationships with residents who will come to value your presence in their community.
