FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MOHAVE COUNTY, Az. – Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Deputies are currently investigating a serious collision that transpired on Saturday evening, September 28.
Around 9 PM, Deputies rushed to the scene at the 3100 block of London Bridge Rd, where a collision between an SUV and a motorcycle had taken place. The motorcycle operator, a 16-year-old male, suffered severe injuries and was immediately rushed to Havasu Regional Medical Center.
The investigation into the incident revealed that the collision occurred as a result of the SUV, driven by Dennis Michael Chiappetta, 73, from Wildomar, CA, attempting to turn left into a business while the motorcycle was coming from the opposite direction. The SUV turned directly into the path of the motorcycle, resulting in a head-on collision and the ejection of the motorcycle operator.
Chiappetta displayed clear signs of intoxication, which led to the conduct of Field Sobriety Tests on him at the scene. A subsequent breath test revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.153%. He was arrested on charges of Driving Under the Influence and is currently detained at the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility in Kingman. Chiappetta’s impairment is believed to be the main contributing factor to the collision.
The young motorcycle rider, who was equipped with a helmet and other safety gear, is now in stable condition. The safety gear likely prevented the operator from sustaining more severe injuries.
The investigation into this collision is ongoing. The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind drivers of the seriousness and potential consequences of impaired driving.
