WEAPONS OFFENSE – DOLAN SPRINGS

MOHAVE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE DEPUTIES arrested Kevin Paul Barnes, 64, of Dolan Springs on two counts of felony Attempted Homicide. On Saturday, November 22, at approximately 9:45 PM, deputies responded to the 15000 block of Pierce Ferry Rd. following a report that an individual was actively firing a weapon toward a local business. The reporting party indicated that the suspect was in a sniper’s position across the street. Upon arrival, deputies observed a male subject with a weapon and began issuing commands for him to drop it. Barnes complied with the verbal commands and was detained without incident.

Subsequent detective investigation revealed that the incident began when Barnes was stopped on the side of the road at 9th St. and Havasu Rd. due to a flat tire. A male subject (victim #1) who stopped to help noted that Barnes began yelling obscenities and instructed him to stop following. As the victim was leaving, Barnes fired a handgun toward his vehicle. The victim then fled and later, while attempting to catch Barnes’ vehicle to obtain the license plate number, Barnes fired again toward the victim’s vehicle.

Barnes then steered his vehicle into the rear parking lot of the business. As one victim entered the building in an effort to alert patrons, a female subject (victim #2) was also entering when Barnes discharged a 30-06 rifle toward them. Barnes then crossed Pierce Ferry Rd. and took up a firing position behind a small wall directly across the street. From this position, he fired approximately four to five shots from the rifle, one of which struck an unoccupied vehicle parked in the front parking lot. Patrons were later removed from the business by law enforcement, and no injuries were reported. Barnes was transported and booked into the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility in Kingman without incident. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are pending.

FATAL VEHICLE COLLISION – KINGMAN

MOHAVE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE DEPUTIES arrested Gilbert Roy Selina, 43, of Kingman on felony charges for Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Death/Injury. On Sunday, November 23, at approximately 7:12 PM, deputies responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision at Northern Ave. and Glen Rd. Upon arrival, deputies observed medical personnel performing life-saving measures on the victim. The victim, Robert Lee Tighe, 42, of Kingman, was transported to Kingman Regional Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Detectives determined that the vehicle involved struck the victim and then fled the scene. A second vehicle subsequently struck the victim, with its driver later calling to report the incident. Dispatch records indicated a report of a reckless driver near the scene, describing a silver SUV operating erratically at a high rate of speed. Surveillance cameras in the area led detectives to a residence in the 3900 block of Heather Ave., where they located the silver SUV bearing significant front-end damage. Detectives made contact with the residents, one of whom was Selina. He admitted to striking the victim and leaving the scene, though he claimed that another vehicle had initially struck the victim. Selina was arrested and booked into the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility without incident. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
