**Mohave Electric Cooperative Warns Members of Potential Scams**
**Bullhead City, AZ** – Mohave Electric Cooperative (MEC) is alerting its members to be aware of potential scams that have been reported. These scams can occur over the phone, online, through mail, and in person at members’ homes.
MEC stresses that it will never request payment over the phone and does not conduct service disconnections after hours, on weekends, or on MEC recognized holidays. Any information suggesting “MEC plans to have one to two weeks of planned outages to upgrade the grid” should be disregarded as false information.
Members are urged not to provide personal or banking information over the phone unless they are completely certain of the caller’s identity. If uncertain, members should hang up and independently contact the business involved. Members can verify their account status by calling MEC directly at (928) 763-1100 during normal business hours.
When MEC representatives are present in the neighborhood, they will be easily identifiable. They will arrive in vehicles displaying the Mohave Electric Cooperative logo and will carry official MEC photo IDs. Contractor crews associated with MEC will have appropriate vehicle signage indicating their partnership with MEC and will also carry photo IDs along with a letter from MEC that authorizes their work as MEC’s contractors.
Founded in 1946, Mohave Electric Cooperative is a not-for-profit utility dedicated to providing reliable and cost-effective electrical service to its 36,700 members and operating 43,500 meters. The cooperative maintains over 1,555 miles of line and serves areas stretching from Bullhead City to Topock in the west, Hualapai to Burro Creek in the south, and Nelson in the east.
