A town hall meeting will be held Monday, July 9 at 5 p.m. to discuss the Mohave Valley Irrigation and Drainage District’s proposed water fallowing program. The town hall will be hosted by Mohave County District 5 Supervisor Lois Wakimoto and held at the Mohave Valley Fire Department, 1451 Willow Drive.

On Tuesday, July 10, a board meeting of the MVIDD will be held at 4 p.m. at the Mohave Valley Fire Department. The board may take possible action regarding the proposed fallowing program, which would leave a portion of farm land in the lower valley dry plowed for a season or more.

Supervisor Wakimoto said having a fallowing program could turn Mohave Valley into a dust bowl and affect the health of dozens of residents.

A call to the Mohave County Public Health Department regarding the health impact was not returned at press time.

We will update this story as it develops.
